Hey hot stuff…what’s on your playlist? I know, that is sooooo 2004, but it got me thinking today, on a beautiful Monday with blue sky, when I inadvertently pulled up an old track called ‘ALIVE’ by P.O.D.

If you’ve heard this song, you know it’s addictive. It basically slapped me upside the head this morning and reminded me that life is short. And suddenly (this is your fault POD!), I got the urge to climb something really tall, hook up a wingsuit and pull a Graham Dickinson.

Yeah, that’s right. I’m talking about a BASE jumping playlist, to get you riled up and give you the urge to look death right in the eye and slap it six ways from Sunday. Hey, we all need a playlist for that right? With that in mind, slip these 5 songs on your BASE jumping playlist, whether you’re finally gonna take the leap or just need a quick affirmation why life is just F***ing awesome…

The name of this track is Alive. Believe me, you’re going to feel that way when you crank this bad boy up and watch the video. This is an older tune – it came out in 2001 from POD’s Satellite album but it’s still an absolute slobber knocker. Listen to this before your first BASE Jump. “And I think I can FLYYYYYY…”

2. ARNEJ – WE UNITE (Club Mix)

I cannot count how many times I’ve listened to this track in the past year. Oh wait – 112. This is an EDM track by Canadian trance producer Arnej. Whether you’re in to EDM or like your beats per minute served with a bone cutting electric guitar, this is track is about ‘The Zone’ and staying there. It’s way high on my BASE jumping playlist.

3. Paul Oakenfold – Tokyo (Beatman & Ludmilla Remix)

ANOTHER EDM track? Yup, for a simple reason – the first 40 seconds, which can help you ‘switch on’ and spot the obstacle in front of you. “It Has Begun…”, systems on. “It Starts Now”, you’re at the edge. One more time…”It has BEGUN.” ‘Nuff said. Add it.

4. Killswitch Engage – Unbroken

I’m not a huge metal guy, but I’ve been listening to Killswitch Engage in the gym for years. KSE just kills it, pure and simple, with their combination of life-affirming lyrics and ‘I wanna bench press the world’ riffs that get you hot, bothered and ready to do something stupid. Unbroken is their finest work (in my opinion). Be pure of body, mind and spirit. You’re Unbroken with these boys from Massachusetts.

5. Hans Zimmer – Time

Whether you’re religious or otherwise, I’m reminded of a biblical quote as we finish this BASE Jumping playlist: “Be still, and know I am God.’ Hans Zimmer’s Time is the anthem from the film Inception and, simply, a masterpiece. This track brings tears to my eyes and makes me want to be a better human.

Listen to Time, before your next BASE jump, challenge – whatever. Then look around and take a deep breath.
