Something tells me you haven’t seen wakeboarding like this before. Not unless you’ve been to Lake Powell this summer, in Utah, in which case you may have caught a glimpse of the University of Utah’s wakeboard team.
The University of Utah has a wakeboarding team, you ask? Uh huh – and they’ve got some very mad skills, which you’re about to watch in this video, of two guys who pull off some ridiculous tricks, in which they navigate, manoeuvre and go airborne in the narrow canyons of this man-made reservoir.
Not Another Wakeboarding Video…
The video consists of two members of the wakeboard team, Aaron Dobson and James McVey. Both are simply ridiculous on a wakeboard – I love how close Dobson gets to the canyon wall before skillfully manoeuvring out of the way.
Dobson is the guy you see with the selfie stick, by the way. Without him there would be no video.
But while Dobson’s a ninja, his partner McVey is just nuts. You’ll just love some of the moves he pulls in this all-too-short video (at roughly a minute). I’m not going to tell you what he does, but let me say you’re in for a treat. James McVey is Yoda on a wakeboard – straight up.
That’s James McVey of Utah, by the way. Not the guy in the English boy band.
The Beauty of Lake Powell
Just as fascinating in this wakeboarding video is the lake where it takes place. Lake Powell is a reservoir on the Colorado River, and straddles the border between Utah and Arizona, though most of it is in Utah.
It’s the second largest man-made reservoir in the United States, after Lake Mead, which is just 385 miles to the southwest.
The lake’s large water volume and stunning sandstone formations combine to make it a highly popular vacation spot. Roughly 2 million people come here each year – many of whom come for a little wakeboarding excitement. For the next 60 seconds, you’ll be right there with them. Enjoy!
